Westlake High Dedication Ceremonies are This Weekend

Dedication, time capsule and Parent Open House are Saturday through Monday.

Ready to take a peek at the new Westlake High School? Although school has been open for weeks, the district will hold a formal dedication this weekend that is open to the public.

The dedication/ribbon cutting for the new school will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. in the WHS gymnasium. The event will be followed by an open house for the community until 1pm.

Principal Tim Freeman said there were a few challenges on opening day, but the students and faculty handled it well.

"We are so excited to be in the new high school," Freeman said. "Despite the challenges that opening on time presented, our faculty and staff kept their focus and got the job done. It was amazing to watch the faces of our students as they arrived at school the first day.

"We are so thankful for the gift that this community has provided for our children."

Westlake Superintendent Dr. Dan Keenan also said the opening has gone well.

"There are always adjustments when opening a new building, but everyone is excited about how things are moving forward and about how this building will serve our students and community for years and years to come," Keenan said.

On Sunday, Sept. 22, a time capsule ceremony will be held at noon in the WHS Rotunda, after which the community is invited to tour the building until 3 p.m.

WHS parents are invited to the school’s Parent Open House on Monday, Sept. 23. Parents will meet in the Performing Arts Center at 6:45 p.m. for a short presentation and then follow their child’s schedule to meet the teachers.
