Teacher Feature: Westlake Pre-K Teacher Wins Outstanding Educator Award

Kim McCue, an intervention specialist teaching special ed pre-K students, was one of 14 to earn this distinguished regional award.

Kim McCue is outstanding. 

At least, that’s the consensus among her peers at the local, regional and state level. 

McCue, who works as a preschool intervention specialist at , was one of 14 educators recognized by the Education Services Center of Cuyahoga County and the State Support Team for Region III for her standout contributions in teaching students with disabilities.

Earlier this year, she was nominated by her colleagues and was then “pleasantly surprised and honored” to be one of a handful of teachers who earned the outstanding educator distinction. 

“I love what I do, and it’s been my goal to make the kids love school as well,” she said. “I have wonderful little students, and it’s always exciting to watch them develop and to soak up so much knowledge. Particularly at this young age where so much is learned and retained, it’s my goal to create the kind of learning environment that maximizes their potential.”

Under Principal Mary Flanagan’s leadership style of pairing vision with collaboration, McCue is one of several teachers who comprise a special education team who work together to strategically develop ways for the students to better absorb lesson plans and their curricula from one year to the next.
