Snow, Cold Come to High School Construction Project

Winter has made work on the new Westlake High School a bit more uncomfortable.

Roofing is still being installed. But it's not yet weathertight. Melting snow drips down, creating large puddles. Snow drifts in some places, and there are icy patches on floors and stairs.

Dave Puffer, supervisor for construction projects for Westlake City Schools, said it will be another 4 to 6 weeks before the roof is finished. Once areas are covered, temporary heating can be brought in. That not only makes the work easier for workers, it also helps dry out the interiors, meaning painting can begin.

The main and auxiliary gyms are getting their walls finished. Windows are being installed in that area.

The project remains on-target to be finished by the summer so high school staff can move in and the old high school can be demolished before the start of the 2013-14 school year.
