LOOK: Westlake High Construction Moving Along

Walls continue to go up, rotunda frame stands out

As colder weather approaches, workers on the new Westlake High School have taken advantage of the nice autumn so far to stay on schedule with the project.

Dave Puffer, supervisor for construction projects for Westlake City Schools, gave a tour of the project this week.

Some of the highlights since Westlake Patch was there in September include the frame for the rotunda entry being in place, the second floor of the athletics wing becoming accessible, and the roof being put on near the new entrance.

Puffer told the Westlake Board of Education this week that asbestos removal in the existing high school could get underway in April while school is still in session, to make sure the demolition of the school can be finished before the new high school opens for the 2013-14 school year.

The target for finishing the new high school is sometime in July, Puffer said, so furniture and other supplies can be moved in and settled before classes begin.
