Long Ago Westlake: Bassett Elementary's First Day of School

This photo is from the inaugural day of Bassett Elementary school in 1968

In a new feature, we'll be periodically sharing photos of Westlake's past.

This week, we're featuring a photo of the then-brand new Bassett Elementary School's first day of school, courtesy of ClevelandMemory.com.

According to Cleveland Memory, this photo, taken on Jan. 4, 1968, is of first graders' first day of school "at the new Bassett Elementary School in Westlake.

"This is the first grade room of Mrs. Virginia Royer. The building has seven teaching stations but has been designed so that future additions will triple its size and potential enrollment. Construction costs are the last funds from a 1963 bond issue," a   Cleveland Memory reads.

Today, the school has more than 380 students.

I think Enterprise was going to move there, since BMW is moving to where Enterprise is.
