Lee Burneson Team Wins Second Place at Engineering Competition

Competition will be aired on WVIZ.

The eighth-grade Design Squad team brought home a second-place trophy in the third annual Design Squad competition at the Idea Center on March 24.

The Design Squad competition is for budding engineers from middle schools across Northeast Ohio. LBMS competed against 11 other schools.

The LBMS students – Ally Roberts, David Wanhainen, Sean Freeman and Natalie Wahl – participated in three one-hour design challenges. Judges evaluated the students on their ability to work together, design process and problem solving skills. The students were challenged to build a mechanism to hit a plastic golf ball  20 feet over to an indoor practice hole, deliver via zip line a marble to a cup on the ground 20 feet away, and propel a small “angry bird” toy 20 feet to knock down six plastic cups. They were supplied a container of tape, scissors, cups, screws, nails, bolts, wood, wood rulers and string to create their designs.
