School got roof repairs, new entrance

Work is coming down to the wire at as workers clean up from improvement projects this summer and make the school ready for students when the 2012-13 school year starts on August 16.

The first coat of paving was applied last weekend to the parking lot, which should be ready in time for students picking up their schedules and orientation, said .

Eighth-grade students can pick up their schedules starting Friday, Aug. 10, between 12 and 4 p.m.

Orientation for new students and seventh-graders is Monday, Aug. 13.

Getting in and out

The traffic flow around the campus has changed, as the old Red Brick School is gone and a new parking lot between the middle school and has been created.

The bus loop in front of the middle school has a base coat of paving. It will continue to be the main construction entrance for the .

Heavy construction equipments and large trucks cannot use Bassett Road to get to the back entrance, Puffer explained.

The only entrance for the middle school and Dover Elementary is now directly across the street from .

The new traffic light for the entrance is installed, and is currently on flashing mode.

Parents taking students to Dover Elementary will follow the bus loop in front of the middle school, then pass the under-construction new middle school, and then go into the large parking lot, where they can drop the children off near the school then loop back out to the main entrance.

Other work

The school itself has had some work done, as it will be converted to an elementary school after the new middle school opens for the 2013-14 school year.

A new energy-efficient boiler has been added. Puffer has estimated that the school has gone from a boiler that is 61 percent efficient to one that is 95 percent efficient.

Roof repairs have also been done. Work was done over last weekend, Puffer said, and the roof should be finished by this weekend.

The custodians have been busy, Puffer added, cleaning up in classrooms underneath where roof repairs have been done.
