5 Things To Know Today: Thursday, June 9

Summer camps, strawberries and more!

1) The Demons softball team has the highest collective GPA of any team in Ohio! For the second year in a row, the team got the honor from the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association for having the highest in the state - a 4.074. This year's team also won the sectional championship and was a district semi-finalist. The school will receive a commemorative plaque and the team will get a $50 gift certificate to Romeo’s Pizza.

2) The kids are out of school - but what are they going to do all summer? There is still room at many summer camps, programs and many other  classes including swim lessons, pony riding lessons, cooking classes, drawing and more. Check out more details on summer camps and classes here.

3) With the 20th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about to get a facelift, it seems a fitting time to celebrate the birthday of Les Paul, the inventor of the solid-body electric guitar. Paul, who died in 2009, innovated the recording industry and developed unique and influential guitar-playing techniques. To find out more about him, see his profile on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame site.

It will be a little cooler, but still hot with a high near 85 degrees. There might be more thunderstorms this evening before 11 p.m., with a low around 60 degrees.

5) Seasonal strawberries are here! Stock up while you can and try from Avon Patch editor Melissa Hebert for strawberry tiramisu. To see different farms where you can pick your own strawberries, visit Pick Your Own.
