Westlake to Join Bay Village in Project to Widen Intersection at Bradley and Nagle Roads

Crews are ready to begin work to install a traffic light at the intersection and improve the railroad crossing.

The city of Westlake is partnering with Bay Village to improve and expand the intersection at Bradley and Nagle roads. Thanks to a grant and a loan of $1,253,498 each from the State Capital Improvement Program, construction crews are already preparing the site for work.

City Council will vote Thursday night on legislation to enter into a joint project to  alleviate congestion on Bradley Road.

“We’re working with them and we understand the intersection will be improved,” said Mayor Dennis Clough. “It will be much safer to turn and stop.”

The Nagle and Bradley roads intersection will be widened from two to three lanes down to Clemens Road in Westlake, adding a left turn lane coming out of Westlake onto Nagle Road. The plans also include a traffic light at the intersection.

The railroad crossing directly to the south of the intersection will be also be improved.

“A lot of people are stopping now on the tracks at Nagle Road,” Clough said. “It’s a sharp turn and there really isn’t any room for anyone to be that close to the tracks.”

Cars often pile up on Bradley Road waiting to turn left onto Nagle Road right as they cross the tracks. Drivers are also forced to stop on the tracks at times, which Clough said is a safety hazard.

“People will now have easier access to their property without backing up the entire street,” he said.

According to the memorandum of understanding between the two cities, Westlake and Bay Village will each pay half of the project cost beyond the grant amount, about $34,5675.

Bay Village will be responsible for administrating the project.
