State Rep. Nan Baker to Speak at Dover UCC April 12

Will discuss Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. Community is welcome.

State Representative Nan Baker (R-Westlake) will be speaking at Dover United Church of Christ (2239 Dover Center Road) on Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. to discuss current issues in the Ohio House of Representatives. Among the topics will be Medicaid Expansion and provisions in the Affordable (Health) Care Act that impact the community.

Baker represents District 16, which includes Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted, Rocky River and Westlake.

Dover United Church of Christ pastor Keith Stuart said he is inviting the community to address the Medicaid and Affordable Care Act which affects those in need less fortunate. Stuart said in the past he has written letters, made calls, etc., about justice issues that affect the less fortunate.

“I simply shared my thoughts with Nan,” Stuart said. “She agreed to meet with some of the local clergy last month. At that time, Gov. Kasich had just presented his budget, so she did not have any concrete information. Given the latest from the statehouse, I feel her coming to share is most timely.”

The topic is important, he said, and not just those directly affected, but for the community at large.

“I think it is too easy for the community of faith to stay on the sidelines,” Stuart said. “Our church wants to be involved in the issues of the day, offer our perspective, while allowing for the views of others to be heard. I feel that much of the divide in our country is we only associate with those who think, vote and look like us.”
