St. John Medical Center Presents Comprehensive Renovation Plans

Updates include renovated patient rooms, more outpatient service space and more.

is moving forward with plans for the upcoming five-year, $100-million renovation project with detailed plans for construction.

The joint project between the hospital, University Hospitals and the Sisters of Charity Health System will add 35,000 square feet to the site, along with technological upgrades, patient room renovations and new entrances.

The hospital, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will be under construction for about four years.

According to the hospital’s website, the renovations will include four new operating rooms, more clinical space, an expansion of the cardiovascular department and a new 12-bed clinical decision unit. A new entrance will be added for those undergoing outpatient procedures on the south side for easy access the new one-story addition for outpatient services.

“This will certainly lighten and modernize a lot of portions of the building,” said Planning Director Bob Parry. “I think it’s nice to see a master plan work out and you did a nice job a while back and it’s really following through.”

Planning commission members seemed impressed with the plans, which will now be sent to Westlake City Council for final approval.

“I think they’ve done a nice job,” said planning commission secretary Daniel Meehan. “I think they’ve been respectful of what’s there but they’re taking it in a modern direction and I think it’s well done.”
