No Battle for Patton, Brady in Ohio Senate Primary

Only one Republican, one Democrat running in 24th District

The March 6 primary for the 24th District Ohio Senate seat will be a quiet one, with no opposition on the ballot.

Incumbent Republican Tom Patton will advance unopposed to the November general election.

Likewise for Democratic challenger Jennifer Brady, who filed as a write-in candidate.

Independent candidates have until March 5 -- the day before the primary -- to file to run for the post.

Patton, 58, of Strongsville, is seeking his second term as 24th District representative to the Ohio Senate.

Before that, he represented District 18 in the Ohio House of Representatives for six years, from 2003 to 2008.

Brady, 56, of Westlake, served one term in the Ohio House of Representatives, representing District 16 from 2007-2008. She was defeated by Nan Baker in 2008 and lost a rematch in 2010.

She will be a write-in on the primary ballot, but said that if she receives at least 50 write-in votes, her name will appear on the November general election ballot.

State senators serve a four-year term.

The 24th District encompasses portions of Cuyahoga County and in 2013 will include Highland Heights, Mayfield Village, Gates Mills, Lyndhurst, Hunting Valley, Chagrin Falls, Bentleyville, Solon, Glenwillow, Oakwood, Walton Hills, Valley View, Independence, Brecksville, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills, North Royalton, Strongsville, Berea, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township, North Olmsted, Westlake, Fairview Park, Westlake and Bay Village.
