New Turn Lanes To Go In At Crocker I-90 Interchange

The Ohio Department of Transportation will construct two right turn lanes to alleviate traffic congestion.

The Ohio Department of Transportation will be adding two right turn lanes at the Crocker and Bassett roads interchange with Interstate 90 to alleviate traffic congestion in 2013.

On Thursday night, city council members gave ODOT approval to build two right turn lanes, one for traffic turning right onto I-90 West from Crocker Road, and the other on the I-90 West exit ramp onto Crocker and Bassett roads.

The entire cost of the project, which ODOT estimates to be about $778,000, will be funded by the state. The city will only pay for preliminary studies and engineering, with ODOT footing the cost of construction.

The turn lanes are only part of the larger Clemens Road Relocation project, which is also scheduled for 2013. Plans are to build a split bypass from Crocker to Bassett roads, add a lane to the Interstate 90 West ramp and add a northbound turn lane at Detroit and Crocker Roads.

The $5 million project will be financed half through federal funding, and half by the city.

Westlake began working on plans to help alleviate congestion five years ago when made plans to build a campus. Although the project is not in reaction to the Crocker Park's plans to more than double in size, it will also help the area handle traffic from 2,000 American Greetings employees moving in soon.
