Memorial Day Parade Will Be Special One To Celebrate City's Bicentennial

The Westlake Kiwanis Club's Memorial Day parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Monday and travel to Clague Park for the ceremony to honor fallen soldiers.

Westlake’s Memorial Day celebrations will be a special one as the city honors fallen heroes and its 200th birthday.

“We’ll have a little more pomp and circumstance because it’s the bicentennial,” said Westlake Kiwanis President Rick Grane.

The parade will have the traditional taps and echo, and plenty of patriotic music with the return of the band.

“It’s the first time in a couple of years that we’ll have them,” Grane said.

Maj. Gen. Fred Lick, Jr. will be the guest speaker at the following ceremony at Clague Park. Lick served in the Far East command of the U.S. Army and later joined the Ohio Military Reserve where he was named Commander of the reserve.

As part of the ceremony, the Bay Village Post 385 American Legion will give a gun salute and the Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops will place the memorial wreath.

The ceremony will also honor fallen soldiers from the Westlake or Dover area who died in the Vietnam War, World War II, Civil War or other active duty.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday at , 25800 Hilliard Boulevard and proceeds east to for the dedication ceremony.
