Crews to Replace Superstructure of Detroit Road Bridge

The Ohio Department of Transportation will fund the project, beginning in 2013.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has plans to renovate the Detroit Road bridge over Sperry Creek.

ODOT crews will be replacing the superstructure of the concrete box beam bridge, located just west of Clague Road, in January of 2013.

The entire cost of the $865,000 project will be funded by ODOT.

"It's their bridge— and they're doing some replacement," said Mayor Dennis Clough. "They're responsible for any of the bridges over the freeways or connected with it."

The city of Westlake would have to pay for any additional features deemed unnecessary by the state, but administrators are not expecting to include any extra work.

Work is scheduled to begin Jan. 4, 2013, according to ODOT. City administrators are hoping the work will be completed within the year.

"Normally, we try to get construction done within one construction year unless it's a huge project," Clough said.
