City Will Repave Homeowner's Damaged Driveway for $7,000

Heavy city trucks use property as a turnaround.

“The city of Westlake has an easement to have its snowplows and heavy vehicles to turn around on Seneca,” Mayor Dennis Clough said.

Clough said that while the easement and agreement are in place, it was never specified what would happen if there was damage to the driveway, as has occurred.

Clough said the homeowner has requested that the city fix the damage, which is estimated to cost about $7,000.

“I do feel we need to accept that responsibility since it does protect our trucks from going down the street on a regular basis,” Clough said.

A resident of the home at 27526  Seneca said the driveway had significant cracks in it from the heavy trucks.

The resident said the city had replaced the apron area approximately 15 years ago, but the driveway wasn’t sloped correctly when it was put in at the time.

The driveway has already been marked for the area that needs replacing.

Council approved the expense.
