The Census data is a massive trove of information, so the plan here is to highlight some interesting facts gleamed from the data.

Westlake Is Getting Older

The typical Westlake resident was 45 in 2010, making them five years older than the average Ohioan, and since 2000, the elderly population has grown by more than 450 people.

The median age has jumped from 42 to 45 in the last 10 years.

The population under 5 years old has shrunk nearly 9 percent from 1,619 to 1,481, while the elderly population of those over 65 has grown by nearly the the same amount from 5,779 to 6,223.

Residents are Still Predominantly White

In 2000, 92.9 percent of residents identified themselves as white, and in 2010, the city was 91.2 percent white. According to the 2010 census, Hispanic residents make up 2.5 percent of the population, black residents make up 1.6 percent and Asian residents make up 4.9 percent.

Hispanic Residents Are Youngest

Westlake's minority residents are generally younger than the white population. Thirty six percent of Hispanic residents are under the age of 20, while 22.5 percent of white residents are under 20. In the entire city, 23.3 percent of all residents are under 20.

Asian residents are at 25.2 percent under 20 and 26 percent of the black population is under 20.

Westlake Is Full of Families

In general, most Westlake residents are part of a family unit. Over 97 percent of all residents are in households, with over 25 percent including families with children under the age of 18, and over half of families with a husband and wife couple.
