Bicentennial Beard Growing Contest Starts Monday

Pack up the beard trimmer and celebrate Westlake's 200th birthday!

Westlake's 200th birthday celebrations are continuing with the Bicentennial Beard Growing Contest, starting Monday.

"It's a little, fun event," said Mayor Dennis Clough. "We're hoping to get a number of participants. We just want to have fun to celebrate the bicentennial and this is something a lot of people can participate in

Contestants all have to start from scratch with a clean-shaven face. Awards will be handed out for the best, longest, worst and most innovative beards.

The contest is open to anyone, not just Westlake residents and late entries are accepted.

And this isn't the first time residents have grown out their facial hair for the city. Back in 1986, the city held a beard growing contest in honor of Westlake's 175th birthday.
