Candidate Statement: Meyer is an attorney in private practice who concentrates his practice in building and housing code issues, an area hit hard by the foreclosure crisis. He has utilized innovative methods both in prosecution, while an attorney for Cleveland in code issues, and in private practice, while representing struggling property owners caught up in the foreclosure crisis.
Meyer was also a founding member and the first President of the Democratic Lawyers Group of Northeastern Ohio and a founding member and first Treasurer of the West Shore Bar Association. He has worked to bring Democratic groups together and assisted with Democratic reform efforts. He wants to bring the practical, innovative approach he has used in his private career to the state legislature.
"Our region has a wealth of potential”, Meyer says. “Our base of a skilled manufacturing workforce and production assets and the increasing prominence of our medical institutions are underrated tools for our future growth.
"We need to focus on our strengths, anticipate market evolutions relating to those strengths, and not be afraid to be aggressive and innovative in our approach. Our state legislature has been pushing an extreme ideological agenda, though, instead of addressing our economy and jobs.
"We need new leadership with a common sense, entrepreneurial agenda to use our current assets to develop our region into an economic leader. Governmental decisions will be key in making this happen, both in encouraging these developments and in getting out of the way to allow them to develop naturally. If we can do that, I really believe our best days as a region will be ahead of us.”
