Westlake Police Honored for Domestic Violence Work

Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center praises department

The Westlake Police Department has been recognized by the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center for its efforts in dealing with domestic violence.

The department was one of 21 in Cuyahoga County that received an award from the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center, which advocates for victims of domestic violence and provides education about it.

In a statement, Chief Executive Officer Linda D. Johanek said Westlake and the other departments were recognized for their handling of domestic violence cases in a way that protected victims and the community.

"Connecting victims with a domestic violence advocate is proven to increase victim safety, strengthen prosecution and conviction rates, and reinforce offender accountability," she said.
