Soda Bombs Exploding and More Crime

The following arrest information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

2-Liter Soda Bombs Land Men in Trouble

Three 18-year-old men (two from Westlake and one from Strongsville) exploded 2-liter soda bottle bombs at about 11 p.m. March 20 in the Southbridge and Brewster drives intersection, and in a Dover Center church parking lot.

A Harding Drive resident found that her mailbox had been hit by one of the bombs at 12:30 p.m. the next day.

Police arrested all three men, who face charges of criminal damaging, possession of criminal tools and attempted possession of dangerous ordinance.

$200 Cell Phone Stolen from Bar

A Center Ridge Road bar employee's $200 cell phone was stolen on March 13. On March 21, the business onwer found that the suspect had been recorded on the surveillance system.

The suspect is a bald, heavier black man about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a logo and a dark baseball cap. The man entered through the back door and was driving a late model silver sedan.

Ex-Boyfriend Scratches Woman's Car

On March 22, a 24-year-old Westlake woman reported trouble with a former boyfriend, a 29-year-old Macedonia man. Since their breakup on Valentine's Day, the woman's car has had a vulgarity scratched into the hood ($511 to repair) and her purse and coat were stolen from her home. Police contacted the suspect, but he refused to be interviewed. Police continue to investigate.
