Police Investigating To See If Business Break-Ins Are Related

Three businesses in Westlake were broken into on a single night and all three have owners of Asian descent, according to Westlake Police

Three businesses owned by persons of Asian descent were broken into on the night of Feb. 24 in Westlake.

First, the front door glass of China Wok was found broken at 4:14 a.m. by a passing patrolman.

The vandal -- whoever he, she or they were -- did not enter the restaurant and nothing was taken from it, according to Westlake Police.

Furthermore, money had been stolen from the second restaurant's register.

Finally, a nail salon across the street from the second restaurant -- Modern Nails -- was found to have a broken window. Money had been taken from several locations inside the business, police said.

Detectives from Westlake Police Department are comparing notes and evidence with neighboring police departments, as well as Cleveland Police Department, to see if they have noticed similar crime in their communities.

"Other Asian-owned businesses around the west side have been targeted this way," Westlake Police Capt. Guy Turner said. "We're fairly confident they're related."

Anyone with information regarding these break-ins is encouraged to call Westlake Police Department at 440-871-3311
