Police Blotter: Underage Party, Grocery Store Shoplifting and More

Police Break Up Party, Charge 18 for Underage Drinking

Police broke up an underage drinking party at about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 29. Officers got a tip from a caller who reported seeing people coming in and out of a garage door at a business on Sharon Drive, and found 30 Westlake teenagers inside. Police found that 18 of the kids under 18 had been drinking and turned them over to their parents. They, and an 18-year-old Westlake man, will face charges for underage consumption. The other teens were sent on their way after their parents were notified. Police also found that the business belongs to the grandfather of a 17-year-old party-goer who had the keys to the building. Investigating officers are contacting the grandfather.

Copper Wire Thief Uses Construction Equipment in Heist

A spool of copper wire worth $6,000 was reported stolen from a Crocker Road construction site the night of Oct. 24. Someone removed the locks from a storage room and then used a forklift from the job site to carry the wire off, breaking through a fence in the process. Area scrap yards are being asked to be on the lookout for anyone selling the material.

Woman Arrested for Theft of Over $600 in Groceries

Police arrested a 48-year-old Lakewood woman for theft after she took $643 worth of groceries from without paying at about 10:45 p.m. Oct. 30. When store staff stopped her in the parking lot, the woman couldn’t produce a receipt for the items.

Car Stolen From Hotel, Found In Cleveland

A 2006 Ford truck was reported stolen from a Sperry Drive hotel the night of Oct. 24. The owner is a man from North Carolina. Police recovered the truck on East 143 Street in Cleveland Oct. 28. The column and the driver’s door lock were damaged.

Locks Cut Off of Work Trucks on Clemens Road

Two businesses on Clemens Road reported missing items from work trucks at about 7:45 a.m. Oct. 26. Police found that the locks had been cut off of four of his trucks and two trailers. Tools, ladders, light fixtures and wire were taken. A carpet company also reported that two trucks had been broken into and that tools and supplies were missing.

The carpet company told police that there was suspicious activity in the area at about 12:15 p.m. Oct. 25. Employees told police that two men arrived in a black Buick Rendezvous, and separately inquired about buying one of the trucks. The first man is described as a white man in his 40s wearing a Carhartt jacket. The second was described as a white man in his 60s with a big nose and dark brown hair that is graying at the temples.
