Police Blotter: Officer Breaks Truck Window, Drags Suspect from Vehicle

Police arrested two men for threatening others at a bar and a hit-and-run drunk driver in this week's blotter.

Police Break Out Truck Window to Arrest Driver

Police headed to the Ironwood Café at about 1 a.m. April 5 on a report that two men were threatening to fight other bar patrons. The men had been kicked out of the bar after one of them threw a drink at someone.

When officers got to the bar, the men drove out of the parking lot. Police stopped their car on Second Street for traffic violations

Police arrested the passenger, a 39-year-old Columbus man, for disorderly conduct, The 41-year-old Westlake man in the driver’s seat refused to get out of the truck and locked the doors. The arresting officer broke out the truck’s window and unlocked the doors. Police pulled the driver out and arrested him. He faces charges of operating a vehicle intoxicated, lighted lights, signal before changing lanes, driving on the right side of the road, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. The man refused a breath test and was released April 5. The passenger was released on a $225 bond.

Drunken Driver Takes out Tree, Mailbox, Then Runs

A 48-year-old Cleveland man ran over a mailbox and a tree in the 4000 block of Porter Road at 3 a.m. April 6. The man tried to run from the scene, but he left parts of his bumper and headlights behind. Officers found the man’s damaged Dodge Durango a few houses away. Police arrested him and charged him with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, hit/skip, failure to control, driving outside marked lanes and three counts of criminal mischief. The man refused to take a breath test and was released that morning.

Man Swings Bat at Mother's Caregiver

Police arrested a 22-year-old Westlake man after a report that he swung a baseball bat at a 54-year-old Cleveland woman at 2:30 p.m. April 6. The woman is a caregiver for the suspect’s mother. Police found that the man had been smoking marijuana and and in his room, they found the baseball bat, rolling papers, a scale and other drug paraphernalia. He faces charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Women Lose Purses While Working Out

Two cars were broken into at Bally’s Total Fitness on April 4. A woman found that the driver’s side window on her Toyota RAV4 had been broken and her purse with her cell phone and credit cards was missing. She told police it happened sometime after 7 a.m. At 9 a.m., a second woman reported that the window on her Dodge Stratus was broken. Her purse and checkbook were missing. The missing credit cards haven’t been used and police have no suspects.

Woman Reports iPhone Stolen

A Westlake woman reported her $150 iPhone stolen from a cubbyhole at the Recreation Center between 5 and 6:30 p.m. April 5.
