Police Blotter: Moped Driver Gives Fake Name To Police, Landscaper Confronts Man Over Stolen Leaf Blower

The following arrest information was supplied by the Westlake police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

 Moped driver gives fake name to police

A 29-year-old Westlake man was turned over to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff on June 8 after giving a fake name to police on June 6. When a patrolman stopped the man for riding his moped recklessly on a Crocker Road sidewalk, he gave the officer a fake name. When police correctly identified the man, they found out that he had warrants from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff and the Adult Parole Authority. The man admitted that the warrants were the reason he gave a fake name. On June 7, he pled guilty to the charges from Westlake police and was sentenced to time served.

Landscaper confronts man about stolen leaf blower

While working on Century Oak Lane at about 1 p.m. Monday, a landscaper came upon a man taking a leaf blower from his truck. The suspect dropped the leaf blower and left, but the victim caught the suspect's license plate number and confronted him. Police have warrants for trespassing and theft for the 27-year-old Rocky River man.

 Cell phone stolen from another landscaper

A landscaper working on Hilliard Boulevard near Canterbury Road reported that his $300 cell phone, $250 global positioning system and $500 cash were missing from his truck at about 2:30 p.m. June 6. Police have no suspects but are investigating the 27-year-old Rocky River man from the above incident.

Man surprises man stealing beer from his garage

A Bradley Road resident surprised someone taking a 12-pack of beer from his garage at about 10 p.m. June 6 . The resident chased the suspect on foot to a waiting car and took down the license plate before it took off - without the suspect. The owner of the car was contacted and advised that his 18-year-old daughter was using it. Her parents then called her and told her to come home. The suspect was then identified as an 18-year-old Westlake man. Police are obtaining warrants for burglary and theft are being obtained.

Three residents report total of $1,675 of yard equipment stolen

Police received three reports of thefts overnight on June 7 beginning at about 9 a.m. A Cedarwood Drive woman reported five plants in pots and baskets missing, valued at $150. A Bassett Road resident reported a hedge trimmer, edger, chainsaw and weed whacker valued at $1,250 missing from an unlocked garage. Next door, another resident reported a birdbath, bird feeder and hanging plant, valued at $275, stolen.

Two men end up in jail for throwing a bottle from hotel

Police sent two men to Westlake City Jail at about 1 a.m. June 8 for throwing a bottle off of a second floor window of the Red Roof Inn. Officers arrested a 34-year-old man from Reynoldsburg for disorderly conduct intox, possession of marijuana, and  for having a marijuana pipe. He was released on bond that afternoon. Officers also arrested a 32-year-old man from Courtland whom they found to have a warrant from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office. Westlake police released him to the sheriff that afternoon.
