Police Blotter: Man Takes Keys, Flees Cops and More Crime

Police Chase Man onto I-90 to Retrieve Stolen Keys

Police arrested a 26-year-old North Royalton man is in Westlake City Jail after taking a set of car keys from a 30-year-old Parma woman at at about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 20. The suspect took the keys from the woman, whom he lives with, and when she tried to grab them back, he shoved her. An off-duty Westlake police officer working security was notified of the scuffle as the suspect ran out a fire door and jumped a fence onto Interstate 90. Other officers found him there, but he had already thrown the keys away. Friends of the victim and off-duty officers found the keys after about 15 minutes of searching.

 Cell phone and GPS Stolen from Two Vehicles

Police have no suspects in two thefts from cars on Dunford Avenue. Officers got a report of a missing cell phone and GPS unit worth $200 at about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 20. Both vehicles were parked in an open garage.

 Employee’s Wallet Stolen from Furniture Store

An employee at a Crocker Park Boulevard furniture store reported the theft of her wallet at about 8:45 p.m. Aug. 19. The woman had left it in a storeroom, possibly while a rear door was opened during a delivery. The wallet had her driver’s license, a blank check and five credit cards. One of the cards had been used several times and the victim is gathering information on where the purchases were made.

 Shed Taken from Rental Property

A Westlake woman reported that tenants took a $500 shed from her rental property on Bradley Road at about 8:30 a.m. Aug. 20. A witness saw the tenants take the shed on a trailer about a month ago. The tenants claim the woman gave them permission to take it. The city prosecutor will rule on a possible theft charge. The tenants are late on rent, and the landlord will start the eviction process Aug. 22.
