Police Blotter: Man Protests Snow Removal and A Woman Sees Something Supernatural

Thefts, winter weather and a joy ride gone wrong round out the week in crime from Feb. 14-20.

Man Protests Snow Removal; Pushes City Worker

A 72-year-old Westlake man stood in the road on Farrs Garden Path at 9:44 a.m. Feb. 22, trying to keep a city snow plow from clearing the street. The man also pushed a service department employee who asked him to get out of the street. City workers said they’ve had run-ins with the man before. Police arrested the man after again asking him to move. The man complained of chest pains so the fire department took him to St. John Medical Center. Police will issue a summons for disorderly conduct.

A woman reported a man dressed like a mummy smoking a cigarette in a car in the Bay Landings parking lot at 12:19 a.m. Feb. 25. When police checked the area, they didn’t find any supernatural activity.

Joy Ride Ends In Back of Police Cruiser

Police received a tip about a possible drunk driver at 4:52 a.m. Feb. 27. They stopped a VW Passat on Halls Carriage Path and when they got out of the cruiser, they saw a case of beer on the center console. Officers arrested a 20-year-old Westlake man for driving under suspension, open container and underage possession of alcohol. Police also charged a 20-year-old North Olmsted man with open container and underage possession, a 19-year-old North Ridgeville woman for underage consumption and a 17-year-old Westlake girl for curfew violation and underage consumption. Officers released all three adults, after the North Olmsted man cleaned up his vomit from the back of the police cruiser. They handed the girl over to a parent.

Snow Storm On Friday Leaves Some Stranded

Between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Feb. 25, police responded to four accidents, none with injuries, six spinouts and 15 broken-down vehicles.

Snowplow Motor Taken From Pickup Truck

The owner of a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck reported the motor for a snowplow missing at 10:23 a.m. Feb. 21. The truck was parked in a driveway in the 3600 block of Canterbury Road. Police do not have any suspects. The motor is valued at $3,000.

Man Reports Theft After Celebrating Birthday

A Westlake man reported a break-in at his Marview Drive apartment at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 23. He noticed the break-in four days earlier. The man’s hallway door had been forced open and two video games, valued at $700, were missing. The man said he hadn’t contacted police earlier because he was away celebrating his birthday. He told police he suspects a former friend might be involved.

Police Investigating Debit Card Theft

Police are investigating the theft of two debit cards. A Wendy’s store manager reported on Feb. 27 that one card was stolen and used Jan. 12. The card was swiped at a gas station in Cleveland three times for a total of $157 before the woman canceled it. She noticed a second card missing Feb. 23 and checked to account to find that another purchase had been made at the same gas station.
