Police Blotter: Internet Meetup Goes Wrong, Man Fights Arrest

Man's Internet Relationship Goes Bad

Police had to break up an argument between a Crossings Parkway man and a 23-year-old Minnesota woman he met online at about 3 a.m. Jan. 22. The woman had come to meet the man in Westlake, and the two had gotten into an argument. The man called police to help quiet the woman down. She agreed to stay away from the man and sleep on the couch.

At about 4 a.m. the same morning, the man called police because the woman was bothering him again. Police arrested her for disorderly conduct intoxicated. Police released her and dropped her off at a hotel near the airport.

Driver Tries Cuts Off Police Car, Tries to Fight Off Arrest

An 18-year-old Westlake man tried to fight with an arresting officer at 1 a.m. Jan. 22. The man had failed to yield to a patrolling officer while turning left into . When the officer asked him to get out of the car, he initially refused, but then eventually got out. The officer radioed for help, and was able to handcuff the man after a brief struggle, and some cuts and scrapes to his right hand.

The passenger, another 18-year-old Westlake man, stayed out of the fight. Police arrested the driver for operating a vehicle intoxicated, blood alcohol content (for blowing a .114 on a breath test), failure to yield, underage consumption and obstructing official business. The passenger will receive a summons for underage consumption.

Woman Reports $14,000 of Jewelry Missing

A Trenton Court woman discovered that her house had been burglarized at about 12:30 p.m. Jan. 19. The woman told police she is missing approximately $14,000 in jewelry. The front door had been forced open. Police have no suspects.

Mother Arrested for Drunken Driving with Son in Car

Officers arrested a 37-year-old Westlake woman for drunken driving and child endangerment at about 6:45 p.m. Jan. 20. A driver reported that the woman was driving erratically on Detroit Road near Crocker Road. Police stopped the woman, who also had her 7-year-old son in the car, and gave her a breath test. She blew a .210 blood alcohol content. The woman and her son were released to her husband. 

Man's Wallet Stolen from Car

Police are investigating the theft of an Avon Lake man's wallet from his car. The man was parked at a Sperry Drive restaurant while he was at work from 5 to 11 p.m. The wallet had $20 in cash, some papers and a debit card that was used at gas stations, a restaurant and a RedBox DVD machine.
