Police Blotter: Drunk Driver Tries to Warn Oncoming Traffic of Police Car, Tips Off Officer Instead

Drunk Driver Tries to Tip Off Oncoming Traffic to Police, Draws Officer’s Attention

A 25-year-old Westlake man was trying to warn fellow drivers of a police cruiser by flashing his high beams at about 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25. Unfortunately, he flashed them right at an oncoming police officer. The officer turned around to see if the man needed help and pulled alongside him at a red light. The driver told the officer that he was just trying to warn other drivers of the police cruiser. The man blew a .135 blood alcohol level and police arrested him for driving under the influence, operators license required and failure to dim headlights.

A Park Place woman called police at about 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 to report a fight with her 29-year-old husband, warning that he often carries a handgun. Officers stopped the man in his car on Hidden Acres Drive. The man told police he did not have a gun, but officers found a .357 revolver in his trunk, along with a knife between the front seats. Police arrested him for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and carrying various weapons.

Boy Chokes Father From Behind

Officers arrested a 15-year-old Westlake boy at about 7 a.m. Sept. 21 after he tried to choke his father from behind. The boy was at home on Westchester Parkway while his father was inspecting his backpack. The father had a red welt on his neck when police arrived. Police arrested the boy for domestic violence and took him to the Juvenile Detention Home later that day.

Mechanic Finds Mysterious Substance in Gas Tank

A Westlake man took his car to a garage after he noticed it running roughly. The mechanic found that sugar, or something similar, has been poured into the gas tank. The man reported the incident to police Sept. 22. He believes his soon-to-be-ex-wife is the culprit. She denied any involvement. Police have no suspects.

Attempt Made on Car’s Catalytic Converter

A Westlake man found that the catalytic converter on his 1998 Honda Accord had been partially separated from the exhaust system at about 6 p.m. Sept. 22. The car was parked at the Sperry Drive , where .
