Police Blotter: Arrested Woman Claims Labor Pains But Isn't Pregnant

Woman Claims Labor Pains During Booking But Isn’t Pregnant

A 39-year-old Westlake woman faked a pregnancy, labor pains and all, to avoid going to Cuyahoga County Jail Oct. 7, according to police.

Officers initially arrested the woman and a 46-year-old man at about 5 a.m. for domestic violence at their home on Center Ridge Road. The woman told officers that the man slapped her in the face during an argument over an ex-boyfriend. The man told officers that the woman had actually slapped him.

The woman has a temporary protection order out against her from the ex-boyfriend and a prior domestic violence conviction, making this arrest a felony. As police transferred her to the County Jail, the woman said she was pregnant and having labor pains.

She was taken to the hospital, where she was found not to be pregnant. Police filed additional charges against her of making false alarms (for claiming to have a medical emergency) and tampering with records (for signing jail medical forms with the claim of a pregnancy.)

Police released the man the afternoon of Oct. 7 after a temporary protection order was issued.

Man Severely Burned in Lawnmower Fire

A riding lawnmower caught fire on East Melrose Drive at about 3:45 p.m. Oct. 8, burning a 23-year-old Lakewood man. The man was taken by Life Flight to MetroHealth where he was treated for severe burns. The is investigating the cause of the fire.

Jewelry and Passport Stolen from Home

Jewelry and a passport were taken from a Hilliard Boulevard some time between about 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Oct. 5. A neighboring resident told police that an older dark blue Chrysler Cirrus or Seabreeze was in the victim’s driveway at about 3 p.m. that day. The neighbor said a man in a heavy black and yellow coat got out of the car, went into the backyard and knocked on the side door. The resident is completing an inventory of missing items.

Garage Door Forced Open on Dover Center

A homeowner on Dover Center Road found the door from the garage to the house forced open at 10:15 p.m. Oct. 8. The woman had left home at about 10:30 a.m. Police believed the suspects got into the garage through an unlocked door.
