Mocktail Recipes From Area Police Officers

These alcohol-free drinks pack all of the flavor of the real thing, without the punch.

Throwing a New Year's Eve party? You can make it a safe one for designated drivers by serving some non-alcoholic cocktails.

The Cuyahoga County Law Enforcement Task Force, a coalition of 45 law enforcement agencies— including Westlake— and Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital's Injury Prevention Center, offers this Mocktail Recipe Guide for delicious non-alcoholic drinks. 

Mock Champagne Punch

• 2 (2 liter) bottles ginger ale, chilled
• 1 (46 oz) can pineapple juice, chilled
• 1 (64 oz) bottle white grape juice, chilled

To make ice ring: Fill a ring-shaped cake pan to 1/2 with ginger ale. Freeze until partially frozen. At this stage you can place edible flowers, or pieces of fruit around the ring. Fill pan with ginger ale and freeze until solid. Place in punch bowl just before serving. In a large punch bowl, combine 1 bottle ginger ale, pineapple juice and white grape juice.

Cosmo-not

• 1 cup crushed ice 
• 3 oz peach nectar 
• 2 oz cranberry juice cocktail 
• 1/2 oz grenadine syrup 
• 1 oz lemon flavored carbonated beverage 
• 1 twist lime peel

Fill a shaker with ice and pour in peach nectar, cranberry juice and grenadine. Strain into a martini glass and top with lemon soda. Garnish with a twist of lime.

Mocktini

• 1/4 cup tonic water 
• 1 tbs lime juice 
• 1/4 tsp lemon juice

Garnish with lemon or lime twist.

Dry Dock Manhattan

• 1/3 cup well chilled black-cherry soda 
• 2 tsp lime juice 
• 1/2 tsp bitters

In cocktail shaker combine all ingredients. Add ice.

Virgin White Sangria

• 3 cups white grape juice 
• 1 bottle sparkling apple cider 
• 2 tbs fresh lemon juice 
• 1 apple cubed 
• 1 cup fresh or canned pineapple chunks, drained 
• 1 orange, sliced thin 
• 2 drops vanilla extract 
• fruit for garnish 
• ice

In a large pitcher or punch bowl, combine juice, cut fruit and vanilla extract. Cover and let chill for at least 2 hours. Add in sparkling cider. Serve in wine glasses or champagne flutes with ice and fruit garnish.

Faux-ito

• ice 
• 6-10 mint leaves 
• 2 oz fresh lime juice 
• 1 tsp powdered sugar 
• 4 oz club soda 
• lime wedges for garnish

In a rocks glass, muddle mint leaves, lime juice and sugar until sugar is dissolved and mint is fragrant. Add ice. Pour in club soda. Garnish with lime.

Pomegranate-Apple Rossini

• 1 oz chilled pomegranate juice 
• 5 oz chilled sparkling cider 
• lemon twist for garnish

Pour apple cider into champagne flute. Gently pour pomegranate juice over back of a spoon onto the surface of the cider. The juice should linger at top, moving down to color the rest of drink slowly. Garnish with lemon.
