Marc Doumbas Indicted on 'Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activity' Charge

Attorney Marc G. Doumbas, 44, of Westlake, now faces time in prison for a first-degree felony charge, said Maria Russo of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. 

On Friday, Doumbas was indicted on the charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, conspiracy and bribery. Russo said the corrupt activity charge is a felony of the first degree.

Doumbas was indicted along with Thomas J. Castro, 35, of Cleveland, Anthony O. Calabrese, III, 40, of Bentleyville, and Giles Timothy Marshall, 63, of Olmsted Falls. Doumbas, Calabrese and Marshall were the attorneys for Castro, a convicted sex offender.

According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, between April and December 2012, the four individuals took part in a plan to bribe rape victims in a pending criminal case. They were allegedly planning to offer the victims money— $150,000 in cash, plus a $6,000 finder fee—to change their testimony. The plan was to keep Castro out of jail by having the victims write letters and give testimony that was favorable to him. 

In the press release from the prosecutor’s office, Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty said that the indictment showed that the county wouldn’t “tolerate corruption in its own backyard.”

Russo said this was a separate case from Doumbas’ earlier charges, not a re-indictment.
