Man Turns Himself In to Face Charges for Firing Gun at Car

Cleveland resident Anthony M. Smith jailed in connection with shooting on Bassett Road.

Anthony M. Smith, 23, of Cleveland, is in Westlake City Jail after turning himself in to police around noon Monday. He is charged with shooting at a man’s car at about 2:40 p.m. Friday afternoon on Bassett Road.

The victim, a 23-year-old Lakewood man, had dropped his toddler daughter off at her mother's Bassett Road home when a gunman fired one or two shots at his car, a police report said. No bullets hit the car, police said, but then two brothers came out of the house and assaulted the Lakewood man.

Capt. Guy Turner said the brothers, Angel Amarro,18,  and  Edwin Gonzalez, 19, tore the Lakewood man’s earring, but the injury was not serious.

Officers from Westlake and Bay Village surrounded the house and arrested the two brothers. The gunman fled, the report said.
