Man Steals Cell Phone in Crocker, Woman Tries to Bite Cop

Items from this week's Westlake police blotter. The following arrest information was supplied by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

An employee’s cell phone was stolen from a Main Street store in Crocker Park on July 2, that resulted in one arrest…but not for stealing.

Just after 1:30 p.m. a male suspect stole the phone. The victim followed him to a parked car; the suspect got into it, and then ran off when private security officers approached.

The vehicle’s owner, a 43-year-old Lorain woman, arrived and denied any involvement despite being seen with the male suspect earlier.

She refused to ID herself and began shouting, then tried to bite one of the arresting Westlake Police officers while being placed in the cruiser. She also threatened to spit on one of the officers.

A $3000 brown-silver Kalkhoff pedeletric (pedal electric) bike was stolen from in front of a Detroit Road store on June 25. It was not locked. The owner did some amateur detective work and found it on a resale website; the listing has since been removed. The owner reported the theft on July 1. Reportedly, it is the only one of its kind in Ohio and cannot be operated without the charger.

A 66-year-old Bay Village man left Giant Eagle on Detroit Road without paying for two packages of fish. He was stopped nearby and found to have also stolen items from Marc’s, Aldi’s, and Speedway (total value $44). He was arrested for four counts of receiving stolen property and possession of criminal tools (the leather bag he hid the items in).
