Mid day fight results in one being hospitalized.

A mid-afternoon, middle-of-the-road fight resulted in two bloodied men as witnesses called 9-1-1 for help Oct. 1.

An altercation between a man in a truck and a motorcyclist resulted in one man being taken to the hospital after he was hit in the head by a hammer just after 3:30 p.m. in Westlake on Monday.

The investigation continues, but 9-1-1 tapes indicate at least four people called police to report the men fighting at the Columbia and Detroit Road intersection.

One woman called frantically urging, “Please hurry,” and then told police that the motorcyclist came up to the truck at the intersection and began banging on the window of the truck when both were stopped. The man in the truck got out of his vehicle and hit the motorcyclist in the head with the hammer.

“A man hit another man with a hammer,” the first caller reported. “They’re both bleeding. They’re in the middle of Detroit.”

Another caller reported there was blood on the ground at the intersection. The men eventually got back into and on their vehicles before taking off on Columbia Road to head in different directions on I-90.

Police found the truck within minutes.

A 60-year-old Westlake man was transported to St. John Medical Center for treatment of a shoulder injury. A 56-year-old Avon man was interviewed about the incident.

Westlake police said reports are not yet complete. When the investigation is finished, it will be referred to the City Prosecutor for review.
