Lakewood Men Sentenced to Prison for Bank Robberies

Daniel Garvey gets four years for robbing two banks; Joshua Sobe, the getaway driver, sentenced to two years.

A 22-year-old Lakewood man — guilty of and stealing a handgun from a Lakewood home in May — was sentenced to four years in prison on Thursday. 

Daniel Garvey had faced more than a total of 17 years in prison for the charges.

Garvey, and a second Lakewood man, Joshua Sobe — the two were classmates at — each pleaded guilty to robbing the Chase Bank in Rocky River on Dec. 14, and Fifth Third Bank in Westlake on Dec. 19.

In both cases, Garvey slipped the bank tellers notes demanding money, while Sobe was the getaway driver.

No weapons were brandished during the robberies. 

In a third case, Garvey pleaded guilty to stealing a handgun from a home in Lakewood.

Sobe was recently sentenced to two years in prison.

Maria Russo, a spokeswoman for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, said that "tips led to the identification and arrest of both defendants.”
