Lake Effect Snow Watch Issued For Region

Westlake is poised to get 2 inches Sunday night, more on Monday, but the eastern suburbs could get between one and two feet of snow between Sunday and Wednesday.

UPDATED 7:03 PM to reflect increase in snow predicted.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow watch for the region, warning that the eastern suburbs of Cleveland could receive as much as two feet of snow between Sunday evening and Wednesday morning.

But here in Westlake, the snow accumulation is expected to be less. The prediction includes 1-2 inches Sunday night and another 3-7 by Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow will be caused by an arctic airmass that is moving into the area.

Its cold air combined with the low pressure across the Great Lakes will allow for the possibility of persistent lake effect snow across Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania.

The snow will also be paired with a drop in temperatures. Thermometers are expected to dip to between 4 and 20 F during through Wednesday.

Yesterday I was riding my bike near the upscale Cleveland Yacht Club basin which borders Lakewood and enjoying the 50 degree temps in Jan....however, today brought high winds grey sky and light periodic snow. Everytime I went outside I was stalked by Lake Erie wind and snow. The wind was a weapon today-I just read Michael Agnish was killed today by a tree. Prayers to the family. Weather is dangerous.............report trees and wires to the police.........maybe we can prevent this from happening again. As a side note I noticed my bulbs peeking through the dirt. Crazy weather. pam davis-ghaster

A blizzrd in Mentor and here at the Yacht club cold but no snow. I am still in awe on how this happens. Everyone is home from school we could use some snow on the west side for sledding today. pam davis ghaster

WOW! What a night in Rocky River. Howeling winds and drifting snow. Here at the Yacht Club Basin the sky is dark over the lake. The neighborhood looks like a ghost town. My husband left the house at 8am in route to Mentor and is still in the car at 9:45. I think it is safer to be in today. I was surprised the west side schools were open. It may be time to ice skate on Lk Erie if it continues to stay cold and the police and fire department gives us the okay. Stay warm. pam davis ghaster
