John Julius Faces Felony Charges for Carjacking Man in Westlake

Prosecutors say the 54-year-old Westlake man assaulted a driver on and forced him to drive.

Accused of in Westlake John Julius, 54, of Westlake, will face charges of abduction, attempted abduction and assault Wednesday morning.

According to Westlake police reports, a North Olmsted man was driving to work on Detroit Road at about 5:30 a.m. April 8 when a stranger jumped in his car, hit him in the face and forced him to drive.

Julius told the man he was the Lord and that people were after him, said Cpt. Guy Turner. The North Olmsted man was able to throw the hijacker out of the car and called Westlake police. He did not need medical treatment according to police reports.

Julius then tried to get into a 51-year-old woman’s car near Dover Center Road but she sped away and called police, said the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

Turner said police finally caught up with Julius when officers saw him riding a bicycle on Dover Center Road near Hilliard Boulevard at about 8:30 a.m. April 8. Turner said Julius ran from police through backyards into the Village in the Park apartments on Detroit Road.

Officers later found that the bike had been stolen from a student at and returned it.

Julius has been convicted of minor traffic charges in the past. His arraignment is set for 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
