French Connection to Bank Fraud in Westlake

The following information was provided by the Westlake Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two Westlake residents were victimized in France-based banking thefts recently.

The first happened Dec. 14 when a Blackberry Lane resident found two transactions totaling $330 were made on her debit card that morning. Both were done in France.

A Detroit Road resident's bank got in touch with him on Dec. 18 when there were three transactions from French companies on his debit card that day.

Two transactions totaling $438 -- one at a shoe store and one at a tobacconist -- went through. The third transaction was refused.

The two victims do not use the same bank. Westlake Police are investigating both cases.
