Daniel Jung Arrested for Setting Fire to Garage

Daniel Jung, the Westlake man who ran over and killed his father and injured his mother in 2004, is accused of setting fire to the garage of his brother's Woodpath Trail home Thursday morning.

Jung, 30, was taken to St. John Medical Center after threatening to kill himself, then was taken to Westlake City Jail Thursday afternoon. He is being charged with aggravated arson.

A neighbor who called 911 shortly before 10:30 a.m. told the dispatcher she had seen Jung pouring what looked to be gasoline around the front of the house near the garage and was holding a lighter. She said she had first called Jung's brother, David, with whom Jung was living, and he told her to call 911 immediately. The caller told the dispatcher that David Jung was not at home when the fire was being started.

Westlake Police said Jung had poured the gas onto a cluster of propane tanks and aerosol spray cans and set them on fire.

Westlake Fire Department and firefighters from Rocky River, North Olmsted, and Fairview Park put out the fire. 

No one was injured. The damage to the garage was described as moderate.

Jung had been living with his brother at 25714 Woodpath Trail since his release from prison in July. He was convicted of felonious assault and involuntary manslaughter in the July 2004 incident where Jung, a 22-year-old student at Stanford University, ran over his father, Yong Jung, and mother, Jemma Jung. Yong Jung, 68, died of his injuries. Jung is on parole for those convictions.
