Our story posted on Tuesday about a Westlake woman’s dog that was attacked by coyotes on two separate occasions drew plenty of attention.

Our media partner at NewsNet5 interviewed Patricia Wilde, who owns Johnny Boy, a small Jack Russell terrier who was attacked twice in the past three months.

Westlake Police Captain Guy Turner told Channel 5 a pack of coyotes lives near the water treatment plant on Clague Road.

"Just create your yard as an environment that's not inviting to them," he said. "Keep your lids on the garbage can. Don't scatter food on the ground for the birds. If you're going to feed the birds, get a bird feeder."

Turner said pet owners should also keep their shrubs trimmed and go outside with their pets.

Wilde lives on Hilliard, but said she previously saw coyotes on Crocker Road near St. John Westshore Hospital.

Have you seen coyotes in Westlake? If so, tell us the comments where you’ve seen them.

We live right next door on the east side of Crown Filtration and we hear the large pack howl when any police, fire, or EMT have their sirens on. It makes them go crazy. We've also seen them while walking home from Panini's after midnight. Two pups ran right from the south side of Detroit crossing in front of us on the sidewalk on north side and went right under the fence into Crown Filtration.

Coyote was walking in the middle of the street on Monroe Trail (off Crocker Road by St Johns). I was walking my 8 month old puppy who was about 50 lbs) My puppy started to bark at it. The coyote stopped, turned and looked at us for a few seconds, then turned back and continued walking down the street. It was in no rush. This was around 9 am on weekend in late May or early June.

I saw a coyote in my backyard in early June. That would be on Rose Road. We have a pond in the backyard and at the time had three families of geese with babies. At about 6:00 a.m. I opened my curtain and saw the coyote get one of the baby geese and eat it. He then picked up what I believe was a dead rabbit and trotted off into the woods. He came back out then trotted off towards the road. That was the last I saw of him.

Thanks for letting us know where the coyotes have been spotted. Hopefully everyone's pets are safe.
