ARRESTED: Missouri Fugitive Arrested in Westlake, Spotted by Citizen

Brian Adkison, 23, was last seen in Avon on Sept. 3. He was arrested at a nursing home.

DEVELOPING STORY

A Missouri fugitive on the run since mid-August has been arrested in Westlake. He was seen in Westlake yesterday before being chased by authorities into Avon.

Westlake Police Captain Guy Turner said Brian Adkison was seen bicycling on Detroit Road near Cahoon Road by a citizen just after 1 p.m. on Sept. 4.

Adkison ducked into woods near Cahoon Road and Bryandale Drive. Officers from Avon, Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted, and Rocky River set up a perimeter in the area bounded by I-90 on the railroad tracks near Cahoon and Ranney Parkway.

At 1:25PM, Adkison was seen inside the Huntington Woods Nursing Home in Westlake on Westchester Parkway by staff; he was arrested there by a Westlake police officer after a brief struggle.

Adkison was in Westlake City Jail Wednesday afternoon. No local charges have been filed at this time; they are being considered.

Adkison's Ohio saga began yesterday On Sept. 3 at 4:29 a.m. when a Westlake Police officer tried to question a male sleeping in a pickup truck at the Hampton Inn on Detroit Road. The male took off westbound on Detroit Road into Avon near Avon Commons, where Westlake Police called off the pursuit.

At 4:44 a.m., North Ridgeville Police Department reported pursuing the same vehicle eastbound on Center Ridge Road and that one of the truck’s tires had been deflated by their stop-sticks. The vehicle then became disabled on Center Ridge Road east of Dover Center Road in Westlake and the driver ran off.

North Olmsted Police Department, Rocky River Police Department and the Lorain County Sheriff Office’s K9 unit were called in to assist in searching for the unknown suspect. Adkison remained on the loose until today.

The PA plate on the truck was found to have been stolen in South Strabane Township, PA; the truck itself was also stolen from Weirton, WV. At 9:56 a.m. the search of the area for the suspect was called off.
