Adults Accused Of Abandoning Toddler In Favor Of The Bar

Both the child's mother and grandparents may face child endangering charges

A couple staying at a hotel on Sperry Drive heard a child crying in the next room short after midnight on Feb. 16.

When they investigated, they found an unattended 2-year-old girl and notified hotel staff.

The couple then tried to find the child’s guardians.

After at least 10 minutes, they found the girl's mother and grandparents -- all of whom were intoxicated, according to Westlake Police.

The mother, who is from South Carolina, claimed that she had been gone for only a few minutes but other evidence indicated that the mother and grandparents had been in the hotel bar since 10 p.m., police said.
