A couple staying at a hotel on Sperry Drive heard a child crying in the next room short after midnight on Feb. 16.
When they investigated, they found an unattended 2-year-old girl and notified hotel staff.
The couple then tried to find the child’s guardians.
After at least 10 minutes, they found the girl's mother and grandparents -- all of whom were intoxicated, according to Westlake Police.
The mother, who is from South Carolina, claimed that she had been gone for only a few minutes but other evidence indicated that the mother and grandparents had been in the hotel bar since 10 p.m., police said.
No charges have been filed against the mother or grandparents at this time. The Westlake city prosecutor will decide if they should face charges of child endangering.
