Pay to Play
Westlake City Schools is considering "pay to play". They are proposing a one-time transportation fee along with varying fees (ranging from $65 for transportation; $15-125 extracurricular fee). "The proposed program is expected to generate $41,433 in the spring of 2014. This proposal is expected to generate $134,485 to $176,750 for the 2014/2015 school year."

In our opinion--this is chump change and is meant to "punish" voters for not passing the levies. Will the money collected from "pay to play" offset even one iota of the expenditures the school system pays out in excessive salaries and benefits? It appears to this citizen that the school board is attempting to coerce Westlake families rather than make serious cuts to salaries and benefits to truly save the school district money and/or that could be put to other uses for the benefit of Westlake's children.
