The Rev. Warren Tropf, 88, Retired Westlake United Methodist Pastor, Has Died

A memorial service will take place Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Westlake church.

The Rev. Warren R. Tropf served as senior pastor at for 24 years before retiring to Lakeside in 1986.

He died at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton Thursday, Aug. 11, nine days after his 88th birthday.

Tropf served for many years as secretary of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a past president of the EOC Credit Union.

Over the last 25 years, he sang in the choir, belonged to the Methodist men’s group, taught Sunday school, played dart ball and served on the mission committee at Lakeside United Methodist Church.

He also organized the vespers services at Lakeside for 18 years and coordinated Sunday devotions at Otterbein Northshore retirement village.

Tropf was born in Cleveland and graduated from John Adams High School.

During World War II, he served with the Army in the Pacific theater of operations.

He went on to graduate from North Central University in Naperville, IL, and the College of Divinity at Yale University.

Before serving the Westlake congregation, Tropf ministered at First Methodist in Cleveland, Windham Methodist in Windham and Nottingham Methodist in Cleveland.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Joan; children, Nathan of Upland, IN, Thomas of Findlay and Lois Garringer of Muncie, IN; ; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, David of Ovieda, FL, and Dora Cureton of Fort Wayne, IN.

Two memorial services will be held.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. memorial service Friday, Aug. 19, at Lakeside United Methodist Church, 450 Central Ave., Lakeside.

A second memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at , 27650 Center Ridge Road.
