Orville E. Nichols Jr., 94, World War II Veteran

Lived in Westlake for 61 years

Orville E. Nichols Jr., 94, of Westlake died May 21.

Nichols was born on March 16, 1918, in Lakewood to Orville and Marie Nichols. He attended Ohio University and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, including a tour in Iwo Jima.

He lived in Westlake for 61 years and was an appraiser/realtor broker with First Federal of Lakewood. Nichols was a longtime member of the Masons Lodge, achieving Travelers status.

Nichols also enjoyed ice skating at Winterhurst and Rocky River ice rinks, as well as tending to the family cabin in Oil City, Penn.

He is survived by his children, Joan Benn-Nichols, Jeanette Settle (James) and Stephanie Strike (Matthew Adams); sister June Harper (Robert); grandchildren Nicole Fenstermaker (Brian), Jason Strike (Patty), Shannon Lowman (Scott), and Angie Esposito (Ean); great-grandchildren Abigail, Lauren, Ethan and soon to arrive baby Lowman; and longtime friend Terry Tracy.

In addition to his parents, Nichols was preceded in death by his wife Emogene (Whiteside) Nichols; and brother William Nichols (Audrey Jean Durham).

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at . The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, at Jenkins Funeral Chapel. He will be buried at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River.
