Marilyn Murray, 73, 2006 Cleveland Nurse of the Year

Marilyn J. Murray, who worked in the oncology department at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland for 26 years, was named Cleveland Nurse of the Year in 2006.
The Westlake resident, who died Dec. 1, at age 73, served with the Stephen Ministry at .
She also volunteered at hunger centers and Playhouse Square.

Murray, who was born Oct. 31, 1937, in Arlington, MA, graduated from the New England Deaconess School of Nursing.
She belonged to College Club West, an organization of women with college degrees designed to "promote and stimulate the educational, cultural, civic and social interests of its members and the residents of the community," according to the club's page on the city of Rocky River's website: http://www.rrcity.com.

Murray was the mother of two children. Her son, David, is deceased.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Drake; three grandchildren; and two brothers.
Services were held at Westlake United Methodist Church, 27650 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, OH 44145.
Memorial donations may be made to the church's scholarship or general fund.
