The Westlake City Schools Health & Safety Committee was recognized for bicycle safety programs at Westlake High School, Lee Burneson Middle School and Parkside Intermediate School.

The Greater Cleveland Safe Kids/Safe Communities Coalition recognized the Health & Safety Committee for Outstanding Efforts in Bicycle Safety in 2012 for its Ride Your Bike to School days. The district’s four elementary schools also participated in a Walk to School Day in the fall and spring.
