Westlake Special

The Westlake Kiwanis Family and the Westlake City Schools would like to invite anyone with special needs to take part in the fifth annual Special Olympics Competition at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, at the Westlake High School track, 27830 Hilliard Blvd. The event will start with a parade around the track with the Special Olympic torch.

The event is open to anyone ages 7 and older with special needs. Last year's event included contestants ranging in age from 7 to 80 years of age. There will be seven track events: 25-meter wheelchair race (independent), 50-meter wheelchair race (independent), 25-meter wheelchair race (assisted), 50-meter wheelchair race (assisted), 25-meter independent walk, 25-meter walk and 50-meter dash. The field events will include: softball throw, standing long jump and wheelchair softball throw. Participants may pick up to four events to participate in, two track and two field.

Forms may be obtained at the Board of Education office, 27200 Hilliard Blvd., or facebook.com/westlakespecialolympics. Deadline for entry is May 16. Any questions regarding the Special Olympics may be directed to Russ Milan at 440-777-2720 or LR24498@aol.com.

Anyone is welcome to attend, so come on out and enjoy the day and cheer on these special athletes. The event is open to residents of all communities in northeast Ohio.
