Westlake Library Volunteer Wins Coveted Myrna Chelko Award

The Myrna Chelko award is given annually to the library volunteer whose efforts have made an impact on Westlake Porter Public Library services.

Nancy Shaw has received the 2012 Myrna Chelko award, which is given annually to a volunteer whose efforts have made an impact on library services.

"The award is named for the late Myrna Chelko, whose contributions to the library epitomized the spirit of volunteerism," said Westlake Porter Public Library Public Relations Specialist Elaine Willis.

In 2012, Shaw gave nearly 160 hours to the library, and has served for a total of 1,842 hours since 2002, said Willis.

Shaw received the award at the annual Volunteer recognition reception on March 3 at the library.

“Volunteers enable us to provide services to the community that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to provide,” said Library Director Andrew Mangels. “We cannot thank them enough for their dedication and community spirit.”
